Believe it or not, “Death Cafes” are springing up (excuse the pun,) in many places throughout the world. These dark and dismal get-togethers are the brainchild of one Bernard Crettaz, a Sociologist and Anthropologist. His “mission” is to liberate death from what he calls “tyrannical secrecy.”
An article about one of these cafes in the Independent newspaper reports that, ” the attendees sit in a makeshift circle and the café door is locked.” The reporter quoted the words of one female attendee who works in a funeral home who said (about the death café,)
“It has helped me recognise that it isn’t a circle between life and death, it is more like a cosmic soup. The dead and living are sort of floating about together.”
Those words, “the dead and living are sort of floating about together,” are deeply disturbing and occultish.
Indeed, in our view, these cafes are sinister and dangerous (psychologically and spiritually) and we would warn people to have nothing to do with these dangerous spiritual death traps.
It seems to us that the goal of death cafes is to trivialise death and to attempt to take away what the Bible calls “the sting of death.” We also fear that these death cafes could influence some vulnerable, impressionable, easily-led individuals to entertain suicidal thoughts or actually consider suicide. After all, if these death café enthusiasts believe that the “dead and living are sort of floating about together,” then what does it matter if one is living or dead?
The Bible clearly teaches that death is something to fear, and that is because of sin, and, because of sin there is death, and because of sin, there is Judgement to come after death. Here are some verses from the Bible which deal with the subject of sin and death,
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he (the Lord Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
” And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” Hebrews ch.2 verses 14 & 15
” For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
” So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
” Oh death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
” The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1st Corinthians ch.15 verses 53-57
” And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
” So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews ch.9 verses 27 & 28
