Update on Prof. George Church – with correction

Further to our post about the views of Professor George Church and the cloning of Neanderthals, we wish to make it clear that the article(s) we quoted from misrepresented the Professor’s views. He is NOT seeking a surrogate mother to give birth to a Neanderthal.

We will let him speak for himself,

“I’m certainly not advocating it, Church said, ” I’m saying,  if it is technically possible someday, we need to start talking about it today.” (see BostonHerald.com   and search for, “Harvard professor blasts Neanderthal clone baby rumour on the Web.”)

We are happy to post this correction and sorry that we posted about an incorrect news item. However, we have to say that we are still alarmed to read that the Prof is even interested in talking about such dangerous nonsense.

  1. “we are still alarmed to read that the Prof is even interested in talking about such dangerous nonsense”

If present-day or imminent technological developments raise grave ethical issues, isn’t it best that these are discussed?

See, for example, “Christians Against Mental Slavery” – http://slavery.org.uk
