Matthew Shepard was murdered in 2004 in USA . He was a homosexual and his murder was portrayed as a hate crime. Yet, an investigation by ABC News 20/20, a US news programme, concluded that homosexuality very likely wasn’t a factor in his murder, but rather Mr.Shepard had been targeted for his money.
David Kato, a gay activist in Uganda, was murdered in 2011 by a male prostitute during an argument over money.
These were two brutal murders and it is sad that these men met very brutal ends. We trust that justice has been meted out to the perpetrators. However, these were not hate crimes as they are understood today, except in the sense that all murderers hate their victims.
